Women at the Well

Women at the Well

“Jesus answered. . . ‘whoever drinks the water I give her will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give her will become in her a spring of water welling up to eternal life. ’” (John 4:13-14, adapted)

Women at the Well seeks to bring women in to a closer relationship with Christ through Bible study and special events, and by facilitating relationships with other women who are seeking to draw closer to Christ.

Bible Studies

What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. AW Tozer

What we think about God can affect how we view all of life’s challenges and joys. If we believe in a small god, our trust level won’t be great. But if we truly understand the greatness and love of our God, all of life falls under His sovereign care, and our lives are changed. So, this fall the focus of the Women at the Well studies will be on who God is, and how that affects how we live. Check out the options.

Thirsty Thursday

The New Year is a great time to get involved in a Women at the Well Bible Study. Our small group Bible studies are an opportunity to get into God’s Word and to get some quality girlfriend time!  Choose a morning, lunchtime, or evening option.  OR, listen to a weekly lesson online! All Thursday studies will begin January 10, 2013. Thirsty Thursday morning options include:

  • Refreshments and Fellowship 9:15 AM
  • Devotional Teaching 9:30-10:00 AM
  • Small Group Studies 10:00-11:30 AM

Thursday mornings offer a time of fellowship, teaching, and small group study.  Our teaching time will focus on the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives. Lessons will be based on Stormie Omartian’s book Lead Me Holy Spirit. After this time together, there will be a choice of three small group studies:

Lead Me, Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit wants those who know Him to hear His gentle leading when He speaks to their heart, soul, and spirit. He wants to help believers enter into the relationship with God they yearn for, the wholeness and freedom God has for them, and the fulfillment of God’s promises to them. He wants to lead them. This study promises that as participants trust in the Holy Spirit and His great love for them, they will be filled with His mind, knowledge, wisdom, understand their special calling, and sense His guidance in the way they should go. Leaders: Becca Jopling and Sandy MacMillan

The Parables of Jesus - Parables are simple memorable studies, often with humble imagery, which embody much of Jesus' fundamental teaching. By studying the parables in chronological order, participants will gain a blueprint for Christian life and growth. This study will use materials developed by Dave Ahl, an Executive Ministries Bible study teacher. The chronology of the parables comes from The Daily Bible (F. LaGard Smith). Leaders: Jane Peden and Brenda Austin

The Law of Love: Lessons from the Pages of Deuteronomy - This new study by Beth Moore is in a lecture format, without the intensive daily study requirements of previous Beth Moore studies.  Beth will draw lessons from the book of Deuteronomy, which scholar Christopher Wright has called “the heartbeat of the Old Testament.” Leaders: April Stambaugh and Rebecca Snipes

Lunchtime Studies

The hour-long format of our lunchtime studies allows busy women to participant in Bible study during a lunch break.

Tuesday Lunchtime Study - This study, which meets at Greenville First (on Verdae Blvd) will study the Parables of Jesus (see description above). This study began on January 8, 2013. Leader: Jane Peden

Thursday Lunchtime Study - This study, which meets at the church, will study Stormie Omartian’s book Lead Me, Holy Spirit.  (See description above.) Leader: Margo Patton

Thursday Evening - A new Thursday evening group (meeting 6:30- 8:00 PM) will study Stormie Omartian’s book Lead Me, Holy Spirit (see description above).
Leader: Karen Bost

Online Option - Women at the Well is excited to offer an online option for listening to the Thursday morning teaching sessions.  Sessions led by Margo Patton, Becca Jopling, and Sandy MacMillan will focus on the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives, using material from Stormie Omartian’s book Lead Me, Holy Spirit as well as additional sources.  You can link to these sessions through the Women at the Well page of the BSUMC website or via the BSUMC Women at the Well Facebook page.

Take Heart Equipping Session

One of Take Heart’s purposes is to equip Christians by raising awareness of needs in our community and providing skills to meet those needs. Take Heart’s January equipping session will focus on the heartache of and hope for healing from sexual abuse:

Setting Captives Free

  • Offering hope to the sexually abused
  • Facilitated by Nell Norton
  • Taylors FBC ministry leader
  • Saturday, January 5, 2013 / 9:00 AM-12:00 PM
  • Taylors First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall

Jesus clearly stated his job description in Luke 4:18 saying, “He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” As followers of Christ, this statement describes our mission as well. Statistics tell us that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men are sexually abused by the time they turn 18. This workshop will provide education, hope, and reassurance that recovery, restoration, and freedom are possible for those who have been held captive to issues resulting from abuse. The content is appropriate for someone who has been abused and/or for one walking alongside someone who has been abused. We will also discuss societal issues resulting from sexual abuse, specifically prostitution and human trafficking as well as how we as the Church are called to expose and end this modern day slavery.

While Take Heart’s ministry is focused primarily on women, this free session is open to any who have a heart for reaching out more effectively with the love of Christ.
